Session 2. Conservation mechanisms

Activity 1

Both modalities

Due to the transformations to which ecosystems or natural regions are subject, actions and agreements have been implemented to benefit forests and jungles, both nationally and internationally.

In their groups, they will analyze and reflect on the following information:

Among the proposed measures, "reforestation and rehabilitation of degraded areas, especially on slopes by terraces to prevent erosion and landslides, afforestation to mitigate floods, conservation and restoration of mangroves in coastal areas as protection against cyclones and tsunamis, and integrated pest and fire management" are included. [2].

Activity 2

National Participation

The teams will investigate actions and debates that the Mexican government is carrying out to prevent deforestation and the way in which forest fires are being fought which are generating severe environmental problems.

They will discuss the findings and present their points of view on actions or agreements to avoid or mitigate deforestation; if they agree or not with them and what they would do to give a solution to this environmental problem.

International participation

The collaborative work teams will investigate the debates and actions against deforestation carried out by the national and international governments and of the country with which they are working (Chambers of Deputies, Parliaments, Congresses, among others). Actions such as programs, laws and agreements to fight with illegal logging; the formulation of forest policies aimed at guiding and determining decisions on the sustainable use and conservation of forest resources for the benefit of society, as well as those that involve the affected communities.

They will highlight a common strategy between both regions and will investigate what is and how citizens can participate and benefit from the proposed actions.

Activity 3

National Participation

As a result of their research, they will carry out an infographic, highlighting the actions and debates that are taking place at the national level in order to mitigate deforestation and how they can participate.

International Participation

With the information obtained, they will jointly produce an infographic, where they provide the details of the strategies of both countries and the contributions that citizens can make in order to avoid or mitigate deforestation between both regions or nations. They can use in Piktochart (video tutorials).

Both modalities

In the Evidence Padlet, they will upload the concept map and express what they learned. Read the contributions of the other colleagues from Mexico and participating countries, in order to compare the different situations of this environmental problem, without forgetting to express their points of view.

In the Facebook of the project, they will share the infographic as an image and their points of view of the seen subject.

In the discussion forum they will share their points of view for or against the actions they have studied, and if they consider that they contribute to prevent deforestation. Forum en iEARN

On the other hand, once they have known about the topic, what actions they propose from a group approach, from their community, national and global.

It is advisable to read the contributions of your colleagues, in order to know what happens in other regions of Mexico and the participating countries.
